Enjoy Traditional High-Fidelity Steinway Sound in a More Flexible Package

At the top echelons of high-end audio, speakers and components are often large and take up significant amounts of space. Sometimes, audiophiles want the same level of performance as larger equipment—especially speakers—in a smaller form factor that better suits their space and decor. Recognizing this need, Steinway Lyngdorf recently introduced the Model C. A speaker with its own heritage, it shares its core technology with the superlative Model D but in a smaller and lighter design. Keep reading below to learn more about the Model C and how it might be the right fit for your Denver, CO, listening space.

Heritage and Design

The first Model C dates back to 2008, following the iconic Model D loudspeaker. The new model features a lighter, more elegant design with extended black strings on the backside that echo Steinway's heritage with musical instruments. The new crossover design processes all sound losslessly in the digital domain, and the digital amplifier and processor are now external, allowing the speaker to be smaller for easier room placement. Adding to the flexibility is the separation of the woofers from the tower, which allows Steinway Lyndorf's unique boundary woofers to be placed in different locations for optimized bass performance.

The Model C's unique open dipole design, Air Motion Transformer tweeter, and cast magnesium midrange drivers give this speaker most of the performance advantages of the Model D in a form factor that is easier to place in smaller rooms. The exposed design and bronze-gold lacquered frame look like an open piano, an ode to the Steinway lineage. The Model C is hand assembled and finished in Denmark, with the same painstaking attention to detail as Steinway and Sons pianos. For better matching with your decor, Steinway Lyngdorf can apply custom lacquers and finishes upon request.

Technology and Performance

Separating the woofers from the Model C allows for more precise locations of the speaker elements for ultimate sound performance. The boundary woofers can be placed at the room corners, while the speakers can go elsewhere to optimize midrange and high-frequency performance. With separate amplification for the boundary woofers, bass performance improves markedly up to very high sound levels. Different boundary woofers can be chosen to suit various objectives in interior design and bass performance.

Every Steinway Lynfgdorf speaker is part of a unique ecosystem that optimizes every element of sound reproduction. Called the Integrated System Approach, it features stereo and surround processors and digital amplifiers designed from the start to work with the speaker. Every driver has its own digital amplifier, and the RoomPerfect™ acoustic calibration technology optimizes and tailors the sound for the best performance possible in the room.
